Attica mountain trails with overnight in shelter
2 days Parnis mountain: The Attica Alpine forest
Did you know where the highest mountain in the Attica Region is? Its not the Acropolis or the Lycabettus – its mountain Parnitha, an impressive mountain with a height of 1.413 meters and it is located in the north west side of the city. Parnitha itself is declared a national park, hosting a variety of rare animals, birds and flowers in its surroundings. Scientists also state, that Parnitha and its landscape is one of the reasons that Athens enjoys a mild, Mediterranean climate all year around. ”More..”
By taking part in our organised visit in Parnitha, you can allow yourself the opportunity to explore one of spots that locals come to enjoy fresh, clean air, take walks, do mountain biking, relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings!
More specifically, you can join us to walk the 8km designated path through the national forest and discover why this mountain is so unique. During our walk, you will be constantly surrounded by diverse trees and plants including but not limited to the Aleppo pine and the Greek fir. What’s more is that if we get really lucky, we will come across the famous red deer of Parnitha, which a native habitat and has been living there since ancient times!
While we enjoy the scenery, you will hear all about the Attika mountains and how they affect and protect the city from different, extreme climate changes. After we complete our walk, we will ride the cable car – during the ride and at the top you can enjoy breath taking views of the whole city and take pictures to capture these moments. At the end of the ride, we will treat you to home made lunch, in Bafi shelter.
